Adult Family Home
It is a specialty licensed home that holds up to 6 residents (few are licensed for 8). In addition to food and accommodation, these homes will also provide medication management, personal care, supervision, and care of acts of daily living such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and incontinence care. Typically, an AFH will have a 1:3 caregiver-to-resident ratio.
Assisted Living
It is important to note that assisted living communities are different from skilled nursing facilities (sometimes referred to as nursing homes). These are communities for those who are fairly independent but may need a little bit of help with things like meals, housekeeping, and medication management. They are perfect for those that KSnt an active and social lifestyle while receiving minimal assistance. Typically, assisted living will have a 1:20 caregiver-to-resident ratio.
Skilled Nursing Facility
It provides a more clinical medical atmosphere. People come to skilled nursing for heavier care needs. Some have shorter stays such as rehabilitation and some stay longer. Skilled nursing typically has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5.
In-Home Caregiving
It is when the caregiver comes directly to the home of the person needing care. This allows the patient to stay in their own home for as long as possible. This ratio is typically 1:1.
